Perplexity and Gemini visibility for UAE businesses
Make your business easier to discover, understand and cite when buyers use AI to compare their options.

They are checked and reported separately. Averaging them into one visibility score hides the only useful information.

The mechanism
Why do Perplexity and Gemini need different work?
They get grouped together because neither is Google Search and neither is ChatGPT. That is the only thing they have in common. Underneath, they behave about as differently as two answer engines can.
Perplexity is retrieval-first. It runs searches when the question arrives, fetches the pages it finds, and writes an answer with numbered citations attached to specific claims. Its answers are visibly built out of sources. Two consequences follow. It is the quickest of the engines to reflect a change you made last week, because it is reading the live page rather than a stored impression of it. And it is the least forgiving of a page it cannot fetch cleanly: a slow response, an interstitial or content that only appears after scripts run, and you are simply not in the candidate set.
Gemini is a model that may or may not look things up. Gemini Apps can ground an answer in Google Search, but grounding is not guaranteed on every question. Some answers come straight from the model, with no sources consulted and nothing linked. When it does ground, it is drawing on Google Search, which means your ordinary Google indexing and ranking work is the foundation underneath it.
This is why a single score across both is misleading. A month where Perplexity citations rise and Gemini mentions stay flat is a normal, explainable month. Collapsed into one number, it looks like nothing happened.
Fetch, for Perplexity
It retrieves live at answer time. If the fetch fails or stalls, you are out before relevance is considered.
Speed and accessGround, for Gemini
If it grounds, it grounds in Google Search. Your Google indexing is the gate, and Google-Extended is the permission.
Select
Both keep passages that answer directly and carry checkable specifics. Both drop padding.
Content qualityCite, or not
Perplexity numbers its sources. Gemini may name you with nothing linked at all.

Why does AI name products but not your business?
This is a Gemini answer to a shopping question that explicitly asks two things: what to buy, and where to find it.
It answers the first half in detail, naming three products with real descriptive specifics. The second half, where to find them, is left effectively unanswered. No retailer is named in the recommendations.
That gap is the opportunity, and it is a precise one. The engine had enough information about products and not enough about who sells them in this market. For a UAE retailer, the work that closes it is not brand copy. It is product-level pages that state availability, market and seller plainly enough to be picked up as the answer to the second half of the question.

The work
What do you change to get cited by Perplexity and Gemini?
Some of this is shared across both platforms. Where it is not, the page says which platform it is for.
Fetch performance · Perplexity
Response time, redirects, interstitials and bot-protection rules, checked against the agent itself rather than assumed. This platform fetches live, so a slow or guarded page is an absent page.
Rendering without scripts · Both
The answer a buyer needs has to exist in the HTML. Content that appears only after client-side rendering is the most common silent exclusion we find.
Google-Extended set deliberately · Gemini
Allowing it is how a site opts in to being used as a grounded source. It is a one-line decision that is usually never made at all, in either direction.
Google indexing underneath · Gemini
Grounded answers lean on Google Search, so ordinary indexing, coverage and ranking work is the foundation rather than a separate project.
Citable passages · Both
Short, self-contained statements that carry a specific fact. Perplexity attaches citations to claims, so a claim-shaped sentence is what gets cited.
Consistent business facts · Both
Name, locations, services and contact details made to agree across your site and the profiles that describe you, so there is nothing for an engine to resolve on its own.
Notice how little of that list is writing. On these two platforms, the work is weighted towards access and structure, because both engines are generous to a page they can read and ruthless with one they cannot. We have seen sites with genuinely good content that were invisible to Perplexity for a reason that took ten minutes to find and one line to fix.
Measurement
How do you measure Perplexity and Gemini visibility?
Separately, on the same question set, with the difference between the two platforms preserved rather than averaged away.
Instrument 01
One question set, two reports
The same agreed buyer questions run against both, recorded and reported apart, because the two move for different reasons.
Instrument 02
Cited and mentioned, kept apart
Perplexity citations and Gemini mentions are not the same outcome. Merging them into one figure would flatter one platform and hide the other.
Instrument 03
Fetch log for the agent
Whether PerplexityBot actually reached the page, and what it received. The hardest fact available on either platform.
- Named in the answer, per platform
- Linked as a source, per platform, with the URL
- Whether Gemini grounded the answer at all
- Which competitors appeared alongside you
- Whether the facts stated about you were accurate
One more field matters on Perplexity specifically: which page of yours was cited. Because it attaches citations to individual claims, the URL it picks tells you which of your pages is actually doing the work. That is frequently not the page you would have guessed, and it is the most directly useful thing this measurement produces.
Limits
Can you guarantee a Perplexity or Gemini citation?
- No guaranteed citation on either platform.Neither offers a paid slot, a submission route or a ranking API. Being a good candidate is the most that can be engineered.
- Gemini may not look anything up.When an answer comes from the model rather than from grounding, nothing on your website is in play for that answer, and no change you make can enter it.
- Perplexity's source set shifts between runs. The same question can pull a different set of pages minutes apart. We sample repeatedly rather than present one run as a position.
- Allowing
Google-Extendedis permission, not placement. It opts you in to being usable as a grounded source. It does not make you more likely to be chosen than anyone else who has also allowed it. - A citation is not a visit. Both platforms answer the question in place. Being cited is a consideration outcome, and it will not always show up as a session in your analytics.
- No client results yet for this service. The example above illustrates mechanism and is labelled as such. We will publish client outcomes when we have ones we can stand behind.
Questions
What do UAE businesses ask about Perplexity and Gemini?
Why are Perplexity and Gemini covered on one page?
Because buyers group them together, not because they work alike. The page keeps them separate throughout for that reason. Perplexity retrieves live and cites nearly always; Gemini is a model that may or may not ground an answer in Google Search. They are checked and reported apart.
Does allowing Google-Extended help with Google AI Overviews?
No. Google-Extended governs Gemini Apps and Vertex AI grounding. AI Overviews are part of Google Search and follow Googlebot and the standard snippet controls. The two are routinely confused, including by agencies selling against them.
Which platform responds fastest to changes?
Perplexity, usually, because it fetches pages at answer time rather than relying on a stored index of them. That makes it the most useful early signal that a change has landed. It is also the least tolerant of a page that is slow or awkward to fetch.
Why does Gemini mention us without linking anything?
Because it did not ground that answer, or it grounded without surfacing the sources. The mention came from the model rather than from a page it just read. That is normal behaviour, and it is why we record mentions and citations as two separate outcomes.
Do I need separate content for each platform?
No. Writing a different page per engine is a trap. Both reward the same things: a page that is reachable, that answers the question near the top, and that carries specifics a reader could check. What differs is the technical work around the page and how the result is measured.
Do you work with businesses outside Dubai?
Yes, across the UAE. The question set is built from where you genuinely operate and who you genuinely sell to, because a question set aimed at a city you do not serve will produce a report that looks busy and means nothing.
