Shopify marketing and CRO for UAE stores

Where the same ten things are always broken.

AdGrow runs paid acquisition, conversion work and tracking for Shopify stores in Dubai and across the Gulf. This is a platform page rather than a category page, because the problem is a platform problem.

Across the UAE Shopify accounts we manage, the same handful of defects turn up on almost every UAE Shopify store we audit. They are not exotic. They exist because the themes, apps and defaults were built for American and British stores, and nobody changed them on the way here.

The anchor number

AED 8M+
across 25+ accounts, and one repeated list.

The value of managing a lot of UAE stores is not the total. It is that the same defects appear often enough to be predicted before we open the site.

We have run paid accounts across UAE e-commerce and clinics for years. The useful thing that comes out of a portfolio that size is not a headline figure, it is a pattern.

Almost every UAE Shopify store we are handed has most of the same ten problems. They are all fixable, most of them in days rather than months, and they sit upstream of the advertising. Running more traffic into a store with these defects is the most common way a UAE brand spends money without growing.

This is also why we treat conversion work and media buying as one engagement rather than two. Improving a conversion rate from 1.1% to 1.6% does the same thing to your economics as cutting your cost per click by a third, and it is usually easier, cheaper and more durable than winning that in the auction.

The ten, in the order we check them. Currency and price formatting that still defaults to dollars for some visitors. Cash on delivery either missing or implemented without a fee or a refusal plan. Tabby and Tamara absent, or present but not shown on the product page where they change the decision. Address forms built for postcodes, which the UAE does not use, and no area or landmark field, which it needs. Arabic either absent or machine-translated, with the layout never tested right-to-left. Delivery promises written as business-day ranges with no mention of the weekend shift. Conversions API not deployed, so Meta is optimising on browser events alone. Shopify and Ads Manager reporting different numbers with nobody able to explain why. Collection pages with no filtering on a catalogue large enough to need it. And a theme carrying four apps that each inject script on every page.

We have never opened a UAE Shopify store that had all ten right. The usual count is six or seven wrong, and the first three on that list are worth more than anything we could do to the campaigns in the same week.

The method

How we work on a
UAE Shopify store.

Five decisions. Conversion and tracking come before spend, because spending into a broken store just buys the problem at scale.

  • Fix the payment mix before the traffic. Cash on delivery, Tabby and Tamara are not nice-to-haves in this market, they are the difference between a considered basket converting and being abandoned. Instalment options need to appear on the product page where the price objection actually happens, not discovered at checkout. And COD needs its fee and refusal rate modelled, because a COD order is genuinely worth less than a prepaid one.
  • Localise properly, which means more than translating. Currency that never shows dollars, address forms without a postcode requirement and with an area or landmark field, delivery promises that account for the Friday and Saturday shift, and Arabic that was written rather than machine-translated with the layout tested right-to-left. Each of these is small. Together they are the difference between a store that feels local and one that feels imported.
  • Rebuild the tracking layer before trusting any number. Conversions API deployed server-side, deduplicated against the browser pixel, with the Shopify-to-Ads-Manager discrepancy understood rather than tolerated. Until this exists every optimisation decision is being made on partial data, and the platform is optimising toward whichever conversions it happens to see.
  • Treat the collection page as the real landing page. Most paid traffic to a store with a catalogue lands on a collection, not a product page, and collection pages are where UAE stores lose the most money: no filtering, no sort that reflects margin, sold-out variants still shown, and no sense of which products the brand actually wants to sell. This is usually the most important page on the site and the least touched.
  • Buy speed back from the apps. A theme carrying several apps that each inject script on every page will be slow on a mid-range phone on a Gulf mobile network, which is how most of your traffic arrives. Auditing what each app costs in load time and removing the ones that are not earning it is unglamorous and reliably moves conversion rate.

What we build

The parts of a
Shopify engagement.

A localisation pass

Currency, address fields, Arabic copy and right-to-left layout, delivery promises and weekend handling, all corrected and tested on a real device rather than in a desktop preview.

Payment and checkout work

Tabby and Tamara surfaced on the product page, cash on delivery implemented with its fee and refusal rate modelled, and the checkout reduced to the fields the order genuinely needs.

Server-side tracking

Conversions API deployed and deduplicated, Google tagging corrected, and a written explanation of why Shopify and Ads Manager will still never match exactly, so the discrepancy stops being a monthly argument.

Collection page rebuild

Filtering, sensible default sorting, sold-out variants handled, and merchandising that reflects what you want to sell, on the pages most of your paid traffic actually lands on.

Theme speed audit

A measured list of what each installed app costs in load time on a mid-range phone, with recommendations on what to remove and what to replace with native theme code.

Paid acquisition on top

Meta, Google and TikTok campaigns built once the store can convert the traffic, with the target set from contribution rather than from platform revenue.

The relationship

Why CRO and media
belong in one engagement.

Think about what a conversion rate improvement actually does, because it is frequently undersold as a separate project.

A store converting at 1.1% that reaches 1.6% has improved its conversion rate by roughly forty-five percent. Every acquisition number in the account improves by the same proportion at once: cost per purchase falls, return on ad spend rises, and the ceiling on what you can afford to bid goes up, which means audiences that were previously unaffordable come into range. One change, and the whole account gets more room.

Now consider the alternative. Achieving the same effect purely through media buying means reducing your cost per click by a third, in a market where everyone else is trying to do the same thing, against platforms whose pricing you do not control. It is possible in places and it is never as durable, because the auction takes it back.

This is why we will not take on paid management for a UAE Shopify store and leave the store alone. It is not an upsell; it is that the two halves determine each other. An agency that only touches the campaigns is optimising one variable while the larger one sits untouched, and an agency that only does CRO is improving a store whose traffic quality it has no influence over.

The practical sequence we use is: tracking first, because nothing can be judged without it; then payments and localisation, because they are the largest single lifts; then collection pages; then scale the spend. Reversing that order is how stores end up spending heavily for six months and concluding the market is hard.

On the overlap with our CRO service page. Conversion rate optimisation and landing pages is the service; this page is the platform. If you want the discipline applied to a site that is not Shopify, or to standalone landing pages for a lead-generation business, start there. If you run a Shopify store in the UAE, start here.

What the portfolio
figures look like.

UAE store accounts we manage. These are portfolio figures across categories, not a single-store case.

Google Ads reporting a 90-day window on a UAE e-commerce account
A managed UAE store over 90 days of Google Ads: AED 39,372 of spend against AED 213,502 of revenue.

UAE store · 90 days on Google

5.1x over 90 days, once the tracking was trustworthy.

A live UAE account returning AED 213,502 on AED 39,372 of spend across 90 days. The reason we can state that with any confidence is that the tracking layer was rebuilt before the number was reported, which is the step most stores skip.

Until Conversions API is deployed server-side and deduplicated, and until the Shopify-to-Ads-Manager gap has an explanation, a figure like this is an estimate presented as a fact. Fixing that is not glamorous and it is the precondition for everything else.

  • Conversions API deployed server-side and deduplicated
  • The Shopify and Ads Manager gap explained rather than tolerated
  • Target set from contribution, not from platform revenue

Shopify analytics showing a quarter of sales on a UAE store
Shopify analytics for one quarter on a managed UAE store: AED 478,539 in sales, 51.6% from returning customers.

UAE Shopify store · Quarter in platform analytics

AED 478,539 in a quarter, read from Shopify rather than Ads Manager.

This figure comes from the store's own analytics rather than from an ad platform, which is deliberate. Shopify knows what was actually sold; an ad platform knows what it believes it caused. Those are different questions and conflating them is behind most reporting disputes we are asked to arbitrate.

We report both and reconcile them, so a client can see what the store took and what the campaigns are claiming, with the gap explained.

  • Store analytics and platform reporting shown side by side
  • Over half of the quarter coming from customers who had bought before
  • Reconciliation documented so the gap stops being an argument

Questions

What UAE Shopify
store owners ask us.

Most of the same ten things. Currency defaulting to dollars for some visitors, cash on delivery missing or unmodelled, Tabby and Tamara absent from the product page, address forms demanding a postcode the UAE does not use, Arabic missing or machine-translated, delivery promises ignoring the weekend shift, Conversions API not deployed, Shopify and Ads Manager disagreeing with no explanation, collection pages without filtering, and a theme slowed by apps nobody audits.

Because they answer different questions. Shopify records what was sold; the ad platform records what it believes it caused, using its own attribution window and modelling. They will never match exactly, and the goal is not to make them agree but to understand and document the size of the gap so it stops being a monthly argument and starts being a known quantity.

Tracking first, because nothing can be judged without it. Then payments and localisation, which are the largest single lifts. Then collection pages. Then scale the spend. Running heavy traffic into a store with these defects is the most common way a UAE brand spends money without growing.

Usually more, and it lasts longer. Moving a store from 1.1% to 1.6% conversion is a forty-five percent improvement that flows through every acquisition metric at once and raises the ceiling on what you can afford to bid. Achieving the same effect in the auction means cutting your cost per click by a third, against platforms whose pricing you do not control, and the auction tends to take it back.

If you sell anything where the price gives a buyer pause, yes, and they need to appear on the product page rather than only at checkout. The instalment figure changes the decision at the moment the price is being considered. Discovering it two steps later recovers only some of the baskets you already lost.

More than the handling fee. A COD order carries a refusal rate, a collection fee and a longer cash cycle, so it is genuinely worth less than a prepaid order of the same value. That does not mean refusing it, since in parts of the Gulf it remains a large share of orders, but it should be reported separately and acquisition should lean toward prepaid baskets.

This page is the platform; the CRO and landing pages service is the discipline. If you run a Shopify store in the UAE, start here. If you need conversion work on a site that is not Shopify, or standalone landing pages for a lead-generation business, the service page is the right starting point. They cross-link both ways on purpose.

We go through the ten-point list against your actual store while you watch, which takes about twenty minutes and is usually the most useful part. You will leave with a prioritised list of what is broken, an estimate of what the top three are worth, and the sequence we would work in.
