Salla and Zid are the easier choice for a Saudi-only store, because Mada, Tabby, Tamara, Arabic checkout and local shipping work out of the box. Shopify is the stronger choice for cross-border selling and deeper tracking, because its app ecosystem gives you more control over server-side events. Both can run profitable ads. The platform matters less than whether a purchase fires once with the correct SAR value.
The short version
- Salla and Zid: fastest path to a working Saudi checkout with Mada and BNPL.
- Shopify: deepest tracking and app ecosystem, better for cross-border.
- Platform choice does not change your CPC. It changes your conversion rate and your data quality.
- Migrating platforms to fix tracking is almost always the wrong trade.
Saudi Arabia is one of the few markets where the local e-commerce platforms are a genuinely serious choice rather than a compromise. Salla and Zid between them account for a large share of Saudi merchants, and Salla in particular processes an enormous volume of Saudi retail.
Meanwhile Shopify still leads on store count in the Kingdom and dominates among merchants who sell across borders.
So which one should you be on if paid advertising is your main growth channel? Here is the honest comparison, from the point of view of the person who has to make the ads work.
The comparison that matters for advertisers
| Salla | Zid | Shopify | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arabic and RTL checkout | Native | Native | Needs configuration or an app |
| Mada, Tabby, Tamara, STC Pay | Built in | Built in | Available, more setup |
| Cash on delivery workflow | Built for it | Built for it | Needs an app or custom work |
| Local shipping integrations | Extensive | Extensive | Fewer Saudi-specific options |
| Meta pixel and Google tags | Supported | Supported | Supported |
| Server-side events depth | Improving | Improving | Deepest, via apps |
| Product feed quality for Shopping | Good | Good | Best, most control |
| Cross-border and multi-currency | Limited | Limited | Strong |
| ZATCA e-invoicing | Built in | Built in | Needs an app or integration |
Where each one actually costs you money
Salla and Zid: measurement depth. Basic pixel tracking is fine on both. Where you feel the difference is when you want event deduplication done properly, custom conversion values, or profit-adjusted values fed back to the platform. It is doable, but you have less room to manoeuvre than on Shopify.
Shopify: the Saudi last mile. Mada, cash on delivery and Arabic RTL all work, but you configure them rather than switch them on. Every extra configuration step is somewhere a checkout can break, and a broken Saudi checkout is expensive precisely because so much Saudi payment behaviour is local.
All three: the feed. If you run Shopping or Performance Max, your product feed is the campaign. Shopify gives you the most control over titles, GTINs and custom labels. On the local platforms you can get there, it just takes more work.
The test that beats any comparison table
Whatever platform you are on, run this before you spend another riyal.
- Place a real test order on your own store, using the payment method most of your customers use. Not a test-mode order. A real one.
- Check that exactly one purchase event arrives in Meta and one in Google. Not two. Not zero.
- Check the value is right, in SAR, and that it excludes or includes VAT consistently with how you report revenue.
- Repeat with cash on delivery if you offer it. This is where most Saudi setups break.
- Compare 30 days of platform-reported sales against your store’s actual sales and write the gap down.
If the gap is under 30 percent, your setup is fine and the rest is attribution behaving normally. Above 50 percent, something is genuinely broken. We explain what each number is counting in why store and platform numbers never match.

Should you migrate?
Almost certainly not for advertising reasons alone.
Migration costs you rankings, time, and usually some historical data. If your only complaint is that server-side tracking is harder on your current platform, that is a problem worth a few days of work, not a rebuild.
Migrate when the business reason is real: you are going cross-border, you need multi-currency, or the platform genuinely cannot support your operations. Then the tracking improvement is a bonus rather than the justification.
Cash on delivery orders that get cancelled or refused at the door.
Your platform fired a purchase event when the order was placed. The customer never paid. The ad platform now believes that campaign produces sales it does not, and it will go and find more people like that buyer. On Saudi accounts with heavy COD this can quietly steer the algorithm in the wrong direction for months.

Frequently asked questions
Which is better for Saudi ads, Salla or Shopify?
Salla is easier if you sell only in Saudi Arabia and want Mada, Tabby, Tamara and local shipping working on day one. Shopify is stronger if you sell across borders or need advanced tracking, apps and server-side events. Both can run good ads. They fail in different places.
Can I run the Meta Conversions API on Salla or Zid?
Both local platforms support pixel integrations and have improved on server-side events, but the depth is generally behind Shopify’s app ecosystem. Confirm what your specific plan supports before you promise anyone a full server-side setup, and test the events yourself rather than trusting the integration screen.
Does the platform affect my ad costs?
Not directly, but it affects your conversion rate, your page speed and how accurately purchases are reported. All three change your effective cost per sale, which is what you actually pay.
Should I migrate from Salla to Shopify to run better ads?
Rarely worth it on its own. Migration costs you SEO, time and usually some data. Migrate for a business reason such as international expansion, not for a tracking feature you could add another way.
What matters most for ads regardless of platform?
That a purchase fires once, with the correct SAR value, and that you can reconcile the platform’s reported sales against your store’s actual sales. Everything else is a preference.
