Snapchat vs TikTok vs Instagram in Saudi Arabia: Which Should You Run First?

For most Saudi consumer businesses, start with Snapchat. Saudi Arabia has one of the highest Snapchat penetration rates in the world and it delivers the cheapest large-scale reach in the Kingdom. Start with TikTok instead if your product demonstrates well in a few seconds, and with Instagram if you need qualified leads rather than impulse purchases. Running all three on a small budget is the most common way to waste a Saudi launch.

The short version

  • Saudi Arabia is a genuinely Snapchat-first market. Do not apply a Western platform ranking.
  • Snapchat and TikTok buy cheap attention. Instagram buys better-qualified leads.
  • Cheapest clicks and cheapest sales are not the same thing. Judge on cost per purchase.
  • Three creative concepts to start, then three to five new ones a month.

If you have run ads anywhere else in the world, your instinct will be to start on Meta. In Saudi Arabia that instinct is often wrong, and it is wrong for a reason most non-Saudi marketers do not believe until they see the numbers.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most Snapchat-heavy markets on the planet. Public adoption data consistently shows Snapchat reach in the Kingdom at a level that dwarfs its position in Europe or North America, and for many age groups daily Snapchat use runs ahead of Instagram.

That single fact reorders the whole plan.

The three platforms, side by side

Snapchat سناب شات TikTok Instagram and Facebook
Saudi reach Exceptional Very strong and growing Strong
Cost per thousand impressions Lowest Low Moderate
Buyer intent at the click Low, you created it Low, you created it Low to moderate
Best for Consumer products, food, fashion, beauty, retail Discovery, demos, younger buyers Services, clinics, leads, higher consideration
Lead form tooling Basic Improving Best of the three
Creative demand High, fatigues fast Highest, needs a hook in 2 seconds Moderate
Where it disappoints Weak for complex or high-ticket sales Wrong audience for some categories More expensive reach in Saudi than the other two

How to choose in one question

What are you asking a stranger to do?

Buy something inexpensive on impulse. Snapchat first. Cheap reach, native formats, and the audience is already there in enormous numbers.

Understand something before they buy. TikTok first, if the product demonstrates well. A skincare routine, a gadget, a food product being made. Anything where showing beats telling.

Hand over their phone number for a consultation. Instagram first. The lead form tooling is better and the audience is more willing. This is the same pattern we see on clinic accounts in the Gulf, and it is why our clinic cost per lead benchmarks come from Meta rather than from Snapchat.

Buy something they were already searching for. None of the above. Go to Google.

What changes about the creative

This is where most non-Saudi campaigns fail, and it has nothing to do with targeting.

Arabic, written not translated. For consumer products aimed at Saudi buyers, Saudi dialect usually beats formal Arabic. For professional services and healthcare, Modern Standard Arabic still reads better. Either way, write it in Arabic. Translated copy is obvious and it costs you money.

Vertical, sound on, captions burned in. Do not run a cropped landscape video. It looks like an advert from another country, because it is one.

Local faces, local places. Generic international stock footage underperforms consistently. Filming on a phone in Riyadh usually beats a polished studio asset filmed anywhere else.

Show price, delivery time and payment options in the creative. It filters out the wrong clicks before you pay for them.

Plan for fatigue. Saudi audiences on these platforms see your ad repeatedly. Three concepts to launch, then three to five new ones every month. Not new edits. New concepts.

How to compare them fairly

The trap is comparing cost per click. Snapchat will win that comparison every time and it tells you almost nothing.

Compare cost per purchase, or cost per booked consultation. Then compare what each platform can absorb before that number gets worse. A platform that delivers sales at SAR 60 but can only spend SAR 4,000 a month is a smaller business than one delivering at SAR 90 that can absorb SAR 30,000.

And make sure you can see the sales at all. If a meaningful share of your orders are cash on delivery or completed over WhatsApp, your platform reporting is missing revenue, in the same way that in-store sales go missing for retailers with a physical shop.

A UAE retail account, not Saudi. The offline purchase columns on the right are sales completed away from the website and matched back to ad clicks. Saudi accounts with heavy cash on delivery or WhatsApp ordering have exactly this blind spot.
The most common Saudi launch mistake

Splitting SAR 9,000 across Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram in month one so nothing gets missed.

All three sit in learning, none gathers enough conversions to optimise, and the conclusion after 60 days is that paid social does not work in the Kingdom. Fund one properly. Add the second when the first is profitable and you have new money, not by dividing the old budget.

Frequently asked questions

Is Snapchat still big in Saudi Arabia in 2026?

Yes, and it is one of the few markets in the world where that is true. Saudi Arabia has one of the highest Snapchat penetration rates anywhere, with daily usage that exceeds Instagram for large parts of the population. Ignoring it because it is not big in your home market is a common and expensive mistake.

Which platform is cheapest in Saudi Arabia?

Snapchat and TikTok generally deliver the cheapest impressions and clicks. That does not automatically make them the cheapest per sale, because they are reaching people who were not shopping. Judge on cost per purchase, not cost per click.

Should I run the same creative on Snapchat and TikTok?

You can start there, but do not stay there. The formats are similar and the cultures are not. Snapchat rewards fast, familiar, native-feeling content. TikTok rewards a strong hook in the first two seconds and a reason to keep watching.

Does Instagram still work for Saudi businesses?

Very well for services, clinics, high-consideration purchases and anything that needs a lead form. It usually costs more per click than Snapchat but the lead tooling and the audience intent are stronger.

How many videos do I need to start?

Three concepts, not three edits of the same video. Then plan on three to five new concepts a month. Creative fatigue arrives quickly in a market this concentrated.
